Michael Edwards

February & March 2021

This collection of paintings, my first on-line virtual exhibition, is assembled from work over the last 2 or 3 years with many painted during periods of ‘lockdown’ or severe restrictions.

The paintings, mostly in watercolour, represent a continuing interest in mythical beings, mermaids, minotaurs, centaurs and Willie Nelson among other creatures, half human and half something else.  The starting point for many of them is a piece of poetry or a line from a song, often added to the image as calligraphy.  After living in the Fens for many years, my new home on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon is also beginning to be reflected in my work, especially in the paintings of ravens. The set of limited edition prints of the old magpie rhyme, from ‘One for Sorrow’ to ‘Seven for a secret never to be told’, is a new venture which I hope to continue.

My thanks are due to Anne and Chloë for all their help, encouragement and support to make this happen.  Of course, we would all like to see a return to real paintings, seen by real people, in one of our favourite places, but this does feel like an adventure.

The Magpie Series prints are signed, limited edition (10) high quality inkjet prints on 300 gsm art paper, size 27 x 27cm. £55 each or £325 per set of seven.

Pieces can be purchased as framed or unframed with mount, please call for details as price may differ from below.
