Paul Edwards, In the Waveform: We are surrounded by waveforms, minute particles, visible and non-visible energy. These images and ideas of layers, particles and waveforms creep into my prints and paintings. An underlying abstract order or chaos that our experienced world is built upon. I like creating a feeling of movement in my work using contrasting colours and dynamic interactions between shapes.
Sara Paynter, I make wheel thrown and press moulded domestic pottery, using transparent glazes over coloured slips. I use traditional English slipware techniques of trailing, pouring and sponging to create contemporary surface designs. Also using piercing (making holes) for function and design. I am intrigued by Japanese designs, especially the positioning of contrasting surfaces, like tides coming in and out revealing and concealing. The qualities of slip used in different thicknesses and different applications is always a slight unknown, an adventure until the kiln door is opened. Like making bread each batch depends on temperature, absorbency and mood!
