Joss Goodchild - The Bar

October & November 2021

Whenever artistic doubts and anxieties surface, I’m consoled by the knowledge that my subject, the East Anglian fens, remains constant. My interest and exploration of this unique landscape continues, regardless of the successes and failures encountered when experimenting with paint. My current semi-abstract paintings interpret these intricately worked flatlands with compositions in oil and watercolour which reference the patterns of fields, waterways and boundaries. Colour, the abundant fen wildlife, an awareness of land geometrics and farming rhythms also inform and influence my artwork.
